Article 6: Prevention of Ransomware

 Prevention of Ransomware

If a ramsomware or an encrypting trojan gets onto your computer , it encrypts your data or locks your operating system. As soon as ransomware gets hold of "digital hostage" , such as a file, it demands a ransom to be paid for its release. By using anti-ransomware , you can avoid this situation. Ransomware always targets individual people and as well as small business compaines.

Security Vulnearbilities
  1. The device used is no longer state-of-the-art.
  2. The device has outdated-software.
  3. Browsers and/or operating systems are no longer patched.
  4. No proper backup plan exists.
  5. Insufficient attention has been paid to cybersecurity, and a concrete plan is not in place.
Well, how to prevent this ?
  1. Never click on unsafe links: Avoid clicking on unsafe links as these links may start a automatic download and may be running in the backround which will lead your computer to be infected.
  2. Never use cracked software: Imagine you're using a cracked version of Microsoft Office 2021 and then you see many viruses popping up in personal computer. This is because cracked software not only give free Microsoft Office 2021 but also many malware and worms with that and that Office 2021 is also vulnerable to security reasons. Hence use only the official software and not the pirated ones.
  3. Don't open spam emails: Imagine your getting a spam email saying "Job Available" and is asks for you to download the attachment to see the brochure of the company, but your email application says that it is a spam email, still you just download the pdf file or whatever file it gives. And then your computer is with malware or trojans. This is becasue that the document is full of malicious macros which leads the hacker to have access of your computer. Hence, don't download files from spam emails.
  4. Always keep OS and Apps updated:  Imagine your using Windows 8.1 which recently end its support on January 10, 2023 and you have many outdated software on the PC. This is vulnerable to your personal files in your PC as outdated OS and Applications are easy to get hacked by hackers. Hence, always be updated to the new ones.

Summary

As with other forms of malware, careful action and the use of excellent security software are a step in the right direction when it comes to combatting ransomware. Of particular importance with regard to this type of malware is the creation of backups, as this allows you to be well prepared even in a worst-case scenario.
